• Телемосты ("Telebridges" or "Space Bridges") were a wonderful tradition of televised conversations between people in the U.S. and in the Soviet Union during the Perestroika era. We take the name for our conversation exchange site from this example of citizen diplomacy.

• The goal of this project is to support exchanges between students in English-speaking and Russian-speaking countries. We have created a set of conversation topics aligned with common Russian language curricula. Conversation topics are grouped by levels defined by ACTFL Proficiency Standards, and utilize some approaches used in OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) practices. For many programs, these levels will correlate with the first, second, and third/fourth year of language study.

• How to work with this website: While we have developed this project to be used in conjunction with college-level Russian language courses, you are welcome to use it for your own language learning purposes. Novice level topics include words and phrases, as well as simple questions. For the Intermediate level and higher, conversation prompts include questions and discussion topics, as well as some role play situations. In addition, many topics include vocabulary cards and supplementary vocabulary lists, as well as interactive review games and quizzes. Please use the navigation bar at the top of the page to select your level and topic. In each topic, you will find sets of questions and conversation prompts.
